It's A Sad Day When...

I recently went to the movie theater to see "Captain Marvel" which was right up my alley. Woman Power. Marvel. The Avengers. So, I was stoked. My euphoria was quickly dimmed by the sight of a police officer standing outside theater #4. No, it wasn't because he was a cop. I have a great respect for the man in blue and I believe a couple of bad apples have given the public a bad taste of authority as a whole. That can be discussed in a later blog post. My excitement was diluted because I was uncomfortable.

I quickly realized that we HAVE to take these precautions now. Unwanted visions of the horrific incidents that have happened in our concert halls, arenas, theaters, schools, and even places of worship came to mind as I acknowledged the man with a gun and badge. Churches are having to take security precautions and form security teams. Concert arenas have more security than ever.. rightfully and appropriately so. Movie theaters are having policemen and women stand guard outside the doors. School teachers are now being trained for much more than just the curriculum. It's a sad day when children despise going to school because of the fear they face getting on the school bus or walking into the classroom. It's a sad day when parents can't be certain that their child will return home safe in the evenings after school. It's a sad day when religious freedom isn't so free because of the terrorism that people in places of worship have to face and prepare for.
It's a sad day.. but as a child of Christ, I know that this world is not my home. My heavenly home is a land of splendor where crying and pain have no place. Even so come, Lord Jesus.
